She 31

Cowes Classic Blue Class

Day races

SHE31 Sheba won 4 out of the 5 days. One year ago Sheba was languishing in a boat yard in Suffolk. Owners Leon Clifton and Joe Iliffe bought her to Cowes and started the frustrating process of a complete refit and modernisation of systems. IOW is not known for speedy efficient boat building. It was worth it in the end as just got the work done in time to enter the Cowes Classic. We did have a very experienced helm in James Mehew and some local young talent to jump around as we are not spring chickens. Event the adjusted time difference on one day of 25 min in a 2 and half hour race was done with borrowed spinnaker that was 10 sq meters smaller than normal.

Houghton Cup

Day race

The Houghton Cup is a 35 mile race starting and finishing in Burnham On Crouch and organised by the East Anglian Offshore Racing Association (EAORA). The start was to windward in light to moderate airs tacking out of the River Crouch for 17 miles against an adverse tide out to Wallet No. 4 buoy in the Thames Estuary, after which it was a downwind spinnaker run all the way back to the finish off the Royal Burnham Yacht Club line. 'Golden Fleece' finished 18mins 44secs ahead of the second yacht 'Woozle Hunter' on elapsed time and 4mins 18secs on corrected time to take line honours, 1st in class and 1st overall.

An island to sail round, more than 654 mile broad reaching and on the wind

The start of the 6th Round New Caledonia yacht race is on June 17, 2018. This race around the biggest lagoon in the World is open to mono & multi-hulls. A 1500 Kms course. This event is physical and tough. Weather strategy and the crews’ physical condition will are the key to victory.

Night, day, hug the coast, keep out to sea: The wind is ever changing. When to gybe? When to tack? Which sails to set? Tack inshore? Head offshore? These are the questions our crews will be asking themselves.

The Tour of New Caledonia is thus a race against the clock. It is an ocean race; four days racing, choosing the right weather options, never letting up: a technical and tactical contest where victory is the prize!4
